jacket jam
A new customer — Patti — contacted us through this site with some questions about adding a particular feature to a jacket. She wanted to prepare a thoughtful gift for a close friend — who happens to be a big Celtics fan. She had been to other tailors, but they turned down the project because it was too much work and they didn’t have the right equipment.
the challenge
Patti wanted to line the jacket with a new lining that featured the Celtics emblem. This entailed removing the existing lining and replacing with new lining, with the emblem in place. The jacket pockets also needed to be re-lined — and also feature the Celtics emblem. And this had to be done to a deadline.
what we did
Initially, Patti wanted to line the jacket with fabric from a sweatshirt (which already had the emblem sewn in). But we advised against that because this fabric would be uncomfortable to wear. Besides, there wouldn’t be enough fabric to complete the project.
So we asked Patti to buy new lining — which she did. We then had to take the jacket apart to create a pattern for the new lining. Being an old jacket (from the ‘70s), the foam in the old lining had disintegrated. Having cleaned that up, we then cut out the emblem from the sweatshirt and sewed it to the new lining, finally sewing the new lining into the jacket.
Additionally, we re-lined the jacket pockets with other material (that Patti also bought) that already featured the Celtics emblem.
results
The work was completed by the deadline. And Patti was thrilled…
